Gail and I saw Urbanized Sunday evening at the Gene Siskel Film Center on State Street.  We enjoyed it.  A beautifully done 80+ minutes documentary on the cities of the world, why they are what they are today, and what is being done now to make them what they can be at their most livable.

A week or two ago our planet’s population passed the 7 billion mark.  Over half of that number now live in cities.  Urbanized tells us that by 2050 cities will hold 75% of our planet’s people.

Urbanized also includes urban bicycle policy in Bogota and Copenhagen (meaning safe and preferential lanes), protests over proposed high speed train rails in Stuttgart, housing initiative in Santiago that gives choice and respect for the poor, and community gardens in Detroit.

Here’s a trailer for Urbanized.
